Along with the Pallars and Parayars we form the largest Dalit group in Tamil Nadu. According to a census report, there are about 4.5 million Arunthathiyars. Our community has produced a number of freedom fighters perhaps because of our martial past. We were in fact at one point in time a warrior class comprising soldiers and military commanders.
